T-64BV mod. 2017 - Russian/ Ukrainian MBT, 1964/2017
The original T-64 was first produced in the USSR in 1964, and combined leaping advancements in armor, armament, and mobility in a tank that weighed as much as contemporary MBTs, had the protection of a heavy tank, and fielded one of the most powerful guns in the red army's arsenal. Following the inception of Ukraine as a free country, it inherited a great deal of soviet T-64Bs, and in 2017 sought to modernize it's fleet of 50 year old tanks. This included thermal sights for the gunner, "Nizh" reactive armor to replace it's Kontact-1 array, and a new engine. This overhaul changed very little of the aesthetics of the tank, meaning it's profile was very similar to the T-64BV model.
This brick-built version of the T-64BV mod. 2017 tries to go above and beyond with attention to detail and playability. Each of the road wheels is on a liftarm that mimics the action of a real tank’s suspension system, and is coupled with an accurate and smooth sets of tracks. Each sloping plate has been tediously adjusted to replicate the original angles of the real vehicle. Small “brick” pieces finish off the outside of the model to give it it's ERA array, and the all-important log is located at the rear of the tank. Finally, the tank also includes a drivers position with seat and steering wheel. |
